Hill View is part of the easy-to-live in town of Portsmouth, Ohio. The Portsmouth Murals are a popular attraction for visitors and residents alike. Located on the floodwall, the 52 paintings in this outdoor art gallery depict scenes from the river valley's past. Featured are views of Portsmouth's history, the town's early Indian settlement, the growth of industry and famous residents, such as Roy Rogers and Branch Rickey. A dedication ceremony was held in October 2002 to celebrate the completion. The Portsmouth Murals are best viewed along Front Street, within walking distance of many shops and dining in the historic Boneyfiddle District. Events
| A fun new Hill View tradition is Mardi Gras! Southern cuisine is offered for this event, and everyone enjoys throwing beads and wearing lavish masks made by residents. A brass quintet features the Music of Mardi Gras, and everyone loves this cajun experience. A popular summertime event is Value Your Treasures. A variety of antiques and other items are brought in by residents and the public alike. Several appraisers are invited, and many valuable items have been found. |

Another wonderfully attended spring time event is the Auxiliary Lawn Party. Area businesses participate by decorating tables and providing door-prizes. A box lunch and fashion show round out the pleasant afternoon. August is the month for the Country Fair! Activities in the past have included Hay Rides, Carnival Games, a Minnie Pearl Hat Contest, Corn Shucking Contest, a Dunking Booth, a Hog Calling Contest, apple pie making, cake walks, gospel music wonderful outdoor grilled food, cotton candy and popcorn. A great time is had by all! |
